Not everything has yet uploaded (less then half at this time) and what has went up may be out of order so take care when navigating through the photos. One reason to upload it now is that I’m going on reserves duty on Sunday and that is sure to generate a lot more new photographs – it seems that I only practice photography these days on two occasions: either when I’m abroad or in the army (which for some reason at least one of my coworkers keep confusing the two ).

Updated: all the pictures were uploaded – a bit less then what I expected: after initial pruning we are at about 1400 pictures, and possibly there are still some redundant pictures that I need to remove. The pictures should be mostly in the correct order, except for the problem that we were using two cameras whose timestamps are a few hours off – so the Powershot pictures should always be after all of the Nikon pictures.

אז זהו סוף הטיול שלנו באירלנד – נכון שקצת anti-climatic, אבל זה מה יש הנה מה שקרה:

ביום שבת בילינו בבונראטי – בבוקר ביקרנו בפארק העממי שליד הטירה, שאמור להיות מצגת חיה של חיים בכפר אירי במאה ה-17-18, אבל היה די עלוב – היו רק שתי תצוגות עם שחקנים וכל השאר היה שחזורים סטאטיים שברובם היום לא עשויים היטב. אזור “העיירה” היה די מוצלח וכלל חנויות צילום וסריגה פעילות ופאב פעיל. באמצע גם סיירנו בטירה עצמה שהיא בעצם “בית מגדל” עם חומה (במקור – החומה עצמה כבר לא קיימת ויש שחזור חלקי שלה). הטירה היתה חורבה במצב לא רע עד בערך אמצע המאה ה-20 שאז היא שוחזרה והופעלה מחדש כאתר תיירות (פרטים בפוסט הקודם).
בערב הלכנו לנשף בטירה: מתחילים בקבלת פנים לכל האורחים בחדר הגדול, שם הגבירות והאדונים המארחים מחלקים לכולם כוסות של מיד (mead) שהיה מצוין (קרן טוענת שהמיד של בונראטי הכי טוב, ואני לא יכול להתווכח עם זה). לאחר שכולם מתאספים, המשרת הראשי (butler) של הטירה מתחיל את הארוע (ויש שיר קצר) ואז כולם מוזמנים לארוחה עצמה שערוכה בחדר המשמר. תוך כדי הארוחה יש תוכנית אמנותית – הצוות (הגבירות, האדונים, הנגנים והמשרת הראשי) מכריזים על המנות, שרים ויש גם ארועים כמו הכתרת הדוכס של הערב, מאסר של “פושע” (אחד מהסועדים), חנינתו של הפושע ושאר טרארם. בסך הכל מאוד נחמד, בעיקר בגלל הבחור שמשחק את המשרת הראשי שהוא שובב לא קטן. האוכל היה נחמד אם כי לא מדהים וקרן לא נורא נהנתה ממנו, חשוב לציין שהאוכל מוגש בצורה האופיינית למאה ה-16 אותה משחזרים – בכלי עץ או חימר וכלי האוכל היחיד שמקבלים הוא סכין (אפילו לא כף – את המרק שותים מתוך הקערה). בסיום הארוע ביקשתי מהאורחים בשולחן להשאר עוד כמה דקות והצעתי לקרן נישואים – היה מאוד מרגש ויש אפילו תמונות (אחד השותפים שלנו לשולחן לא בזבז רגע ושלף את הטלפון עם המצלמה).

ביום ראשון רצינו לבקר בצוקי מוהר שהם אתר טבע מהמפורסמים באירלנד ושם גם צולמו סצינות The cliffs of insanity מהסרט “הנסיכה הקסומה”. זה אמור להיות אתר נוף מדהים, אבל כשהגענו היה מזג אויר הכי מחורבן שראינו באירלנד – רוח כל כך חזקה שקשה ללכת מולה, גשם בלתי פוסק ועננים נמוכים. נכנסו למרכז המבקרים בשביל להתחמק מהרוח ואולי לקוות שהגשם יפסיק עוד מעט (אין סיכוי) – מרכז המבקרי חצוב בתוך גבעה כך שהוא משתלב יפה בנוף (האירים טובים בקטע הזה) ויש בו הרבה תצוגות על הגיאולוגיה ומזג האויר של אירלנד ועל החי בסביבת הצוקים – זה היה מאוד מרתק ובילינו שם כמעט 3 שעות. ניסיתי לגרור את קרן בכל זאת לתצפית על הצוקים, אבל מזג האויר רק נהיה גרוע יותר בזמן שהיינו שם והיא התעקשה לחזור למכונית. למרות זאת שמתי את נפשי בכפי ונאבקתי ברוח כדי לצלם כמה תמונות. זה בהחלט אחד מהמקומות שנצטרך לחזור ולבקר בהם. מסתבר שיש שם גם כמה אתרי צלילה מעניינים למי שמגיע בקיץ.

בתכנון המקורי של הטיול היינו אמורים לעבור דרך קילקני אבל בעקבות אזהרות חוזרות ונשנות על כך שיש שם רק אתרי תיירות מתועשים – דילגנו עליה, אבל במהלך הטיול כל האירים שדיברנו איתם אמרו לנו שאנחנו חייבים לבקר בקילקני כי זו “בירת ימי הביניים של אירלנד”, אז לאחר שהביקור בצוקי מוהר התקצר מאוד החלטנו לנסות להגיע לקילקני. רק מה – בעקבות טעות בניווט בפאתי לימריק ניכנסו למרכז העיר שהיה פקוק: מסתבר שהגענו בדיוק לסוף אליפות ההרלינג המחוזית וכל הרחובות היו מלאים בצופים שחוזרים מהאליפות.נסיעה שהיתה צריכה להיות כ-5 שעות התארכה ליותר מ-8, והגענו בסופו של דבר לקילקני רק מאוד מאוחר בערב. לאחר שמצאנו מקום לינה (אחרי עוד קצת בלאגן בניווט – מסתבר שיש בקילקני רחובות שבהם בית 42 נמצא בסוף הרחוב, אבל 44 נמצא באמצע שלו) יצאנו לעיר והתברר לנו שאמנם קילקני היא all the craic (כפי שהסבירה לנו בחורה מקומית) אבל בניגוד לרוב המקומות באירלנד המסיבות שם מתחילות רק ב-11 בלילה (מה שלא משנה את העובדה שאחרי 9:30 אי אפשר למצוא מקום עם אוכל). אחרי שנים וחצי פאבים ושתי בירות, בציפיה שיתחיל משהו, וירתנו והלכנו לישון.

ביום שני הלכנו לבקר בטירת קילקני, שהיא טירה גדולה שהיתה מעורבת בקרבות במלחמות הקונפדרציה (באחד מהם גם איבדה את הקיר המזרחי שלה). שנים רבות אחר כך הטירה שופצה כאחוזת פאר, כמעט נחרבה במלחמת האזרחים האירית ונמסרה לממשלה האירית ב-1967. מאז הטירה משופצת באופן קבוע כחלק ממאמץ לשחזר אותה למצבה כאחוזת פאר בסוף המאה ה-17. יש בטירה סיור שעובר דרך האגפים הפתוחים (רשימה שמשתבר שמשתנה באופן תדיר בהתאם למצב השיפוצים) והוא באמת מאוד תיירותי והרבה פחות אהבנו אותו מאשר סיורי טירות מודרכים אחרים שעברנו, אבל בכל זאת היה שווה.

בערב הגענו לדבלין בחזרה כשהמטרה היא לחפש B&B טוב לקרן, לינור ואסי בשביל הכנס בסוף השבוע. מצאנו מקום דרך מדריך ה-B&B ונשארנו בו ללילה אבל הוא היה פשוט נוראי ובבוקר ברחנו ממנו. את רוב יום שלישי בילינו בלסייר בסביבת אתר הכנס (טירת קלונדייק ששופצה לבית מלון) בחיפושים אחר B&B טוב – ומצאנו אבל זה אכל לנו את כל היום. ביום רביעי בבוקר קמתי מוקדם (השארתי את קרן לישון – באמת אין שום סיבה שהיא תקום ב-7 בבוקר ) ולקחתי את המעבורת לאנגליה. הפעם לקחתי את המעבורת הגדולה והאיטית יותר ואכן חווית הנסיעה היתה משופרת בהרבה.

שאר היום עבר עלי בללכת לאיבוד בכבישים הבין עירוניים באנגליה, פקקים באותם כבישים, ללכת לאיבוד בלונדון, ארוחת ערב עם חברים, ללכת לאיבוד בדרך לשדה התעופה (תודה לאסי על שהציל אותי!), ללכת לאיבוד בתוך שדה התעופה הית’רו (הידעתם שהדרך הכי מהירה להגיע מטרמינל 4 לטרמינל 3 היא לקחת את הרכבת התחתית בעוד שהדרך הכי מהירה להגיע מטרמינל 3 ל-1 היא ללכת ברגל?) ולהספיק להגיע טיסה לארץ 5 דקות לפני שהיא ממריאה (באמת – לפני שהשער נסגר).

כשהגעתי לארץ מייד נשאבתי לבלאגן וללחץ של העבודה ולכן רק עכשיו אני מתפנה לכתוב את הפוסט. גם התמונות עוד לא עלו לאתר, אבל זה יקרה עוד מעט.

15 לאוקטובר: קמנו בבוקר ואחרי שיחה מעניינת עם בעל ה-B&B שישנו בו, בחור בשם Paul O’Shea שבגילו המבוגר (לא בטוח כמה, אבל מעל 40) עדיין רץ כל בוקר 5-10 מייל ומתחרה בתחרויות ריצה בינלאומיות, וחדר האוכל שלו מלא במדליות זהב וגביעים – המשכנו בדרכנו. דרך הטבעת בקרי מאו יפה, וספציפית אם יורדים מהדרך הראשית ל”טבעת סקליג” שם הכבישים הרבה יותר גרועים, אבל הנוף יותר מעניין. בערך באזור Kenmare הנעליים שלי שעושים לי קולות של התפרקות כבר לפחות שנה, נכנעו סופית והסוליה נפרדה מהנעל הימנית כשירדתי לצלם קצת נוף ליד פאב בצד הדרך. ניסיתי לתקן אותה עם צלוטייפ שהחזיק מעמד בדיוק 5 דקות כשהלכנו לראות מעגל אבנים קלטי בקנמייר. מזל שהבאתי נעליים יפות, רק חבל עליהן. סיימנו את טבעת קרי בחזרה בקילארני (אחרי שויתרנו על עוד סיבוב דרך Gap of Dunlow בגלל הערב היורד). כשעברנו דרך הפארק הלאומי בדרך לקילארני עצרנו בתצפית על האגמים, שם עמד צבי קטן ואכל ארוחת ערב. כמובן שהוצאתי עליו איזה 200 תמונות. חזרנו לקילארני והלכנו לישון באותו B&B שהיינו בפעם הקודמת – Windway.

16 לאוקטובר: החלטנו להאריך את הבוקר בקילארני ולעשות כביסה ולחפש לי נעליים. סיפרתי קצת על זה באחת ההערות לפוסט קודם. כמובן שהיינו חייבים גם לעצור בחנות ספרים, אם כבר עוצרים לקניות – נכנסנו לחנות ספרים יד שניה שהייתה (לא) מסודרת בצורה הנוראית ביותר שראיתי עד עכשיו, אבל היו שם קצת מציאות כמו הוצאה שניה של “הגבעות הירוקיות של כדור הארץ”. אחר הצהריים נסענו לעשות את טבעת דינגל (Dingle) שהיא דרך נוף יותר קצרה (ולא ממש טבעתית) בחצי האי דינגל. הגענו בערך עד דינגל כשהערב ירד, אבל הספקנו לבקר במוזיאון עתיקות קטן בפאתי העיירה – זה פרוייקט של בחור שהוא במקור מניו-יורק, בן יורדים (שההורים שלו גרים ברעננה) שה]תיע אותנו עם קצת עברית במבטא לא רע בכלל. חזרנו לדינגל ומצאנו B&B ממש נחמד בשם Milestone House והבעלים – ברברה – נתנה לנו רשימה ארוכה של דברים לעשות בעיר בערב, ואפילו היתה להם מפה מצוירת ביד של העיר והסביבה. בעקבות ההמלצה שלה הלכנו לאכול ארוחת ערב במקום בשם Ashe’s – מעין מסעדת גורמה אירית-צרפתית. היה ממש מוצלח. אחר כך ישבנו על כוס בירה (אני לפחות) בפאב/חנות סידקית במעלה הרחוב – מקום ממש מצחיק: המבקרים יכולים לקנות כובעים, מעילים וא לתקן כל מיני דברים וגם לשנות כוס גינס.

17 באוקטובר: יצאנו מדינגל לסיים את הסיבוב בחצי האי וראינו (בהתאם להמלצות של ברברה מ-Milestone House שסיפקה לנו תכנית טיול מפורטת): מצודה מהמאה ה-5 לספירה; בתי כוורות מראשית התקופה הנוצרית באירלנד; חוף ים (זה מצרך נדיר באירלנד, הרוב זה צוקים) כשבדיוק יצאה השמש לכמה דקות; וכנסיה נוצרית עתיקה הבנויה כולה (כולל הגג) בשיטה של Dry Stone (אבן על אבן בלי מלט). בדיוק חזרנו לדינגל כשקיבלתי טלפון מהעבודה על זה שמערכת הדואר שלנו לא עובדת בכלל. לאחר 4 שעות עבודה, רובן בטלפון לאנגליה וארה”ב פתרתי את הבעיה (אני שונא אתMicrosoft Exchange). עקב השעה המאוחרת החלנו לוותר על שאר התוכניות באזור ולנסוע ישר לבונראטי. בדרך עצרנו בטראלי לאכול ארוחת ערב, בדיוק אחרי שכל המקומות התחילו להסגר) והגענו לבונראטי בשעה 11 בלילה והלכנו לישון במקום בשם Bunratty Arms, ה-B&B היחיד באירלנד עם סיסמה נורמלית ל-Wifi !)

18 באוקטובר: טיילנו בכפר המשוחזר בבונראטי (מאוד תיירותי, ולא נורא מוצלח) ובערב הלכנו לנשף בסגנון ימי הביניים בטירה (המשוחזרת לתפארת, כולל מטבח מודרני שיכול להגיש את הארוחה). בסיום הארוחה, כפי שסיפרתי קודם, הצעתי לקרן נישואים לכל צהלות היושבים בשולחן

19 באוקטובר: נשארו לנו רק עוד יומיים באירלנד! נסענו מהר לצפון מחוז Clare כדי להספיק לראות את צוקי מוהר (הידועים גם לחובבי “הנסיכה הקסומה” כ- The Cliffs of Insanity) אבל היה מזג אויר נורא – רוח חזקה ומדי פעם גשם וראות על הפנים. נכנסו למרכז המבקרים (המאוד מרשים, החל במבנה שפשוט חצוב בתוך הגבעה וכל בתצוגות המעניינות על הגיאולוגיה והאקולוגיה של הסביבה). יצאנו לטיול קצר בחוץ על הצוק אבל מזג האויר הבריח אותנו מהר מאוד, והתחלנו בניסעה הארוכה לקילקני (עליה דילגנו בהתחלה אבל כל מי שדיברנו איתו באירלנד אמר שאנחנו חייבים לחזור ולראות אותה). בדרך נתקענו בפקק תנועה בלימריק בגלל אליפות ה-Hurling של המחוז. הגענו לקילקני מאוחר בערב.

אתמול היינו במשתה בסגנון ימי הביניים בטירת בונראטי (Bunratty), שהיא טירה משוחזרת מהמאה ה-15 (הטירה היתה הרוסה חלקית ובשנת 1957 מיליונר אירי קנה אותה ושחזר אותה בשיתוף עם הממשלה). בטירה עושים כל ערב משתה לאורחים (בתשלום כמובן) בסגנון המאה ה-15 כולל קבלת פנים, נגנים וזמרים וכמובן אוכל בכלים מסורתיים – בלי סכו”ם .

בסוף הארוחה קמתי והצעתי לקרן נישואים, והיא הסכימה ! !

אז זהו זה, וצפו לעדכונים בהמשך (הרבה בהמשך..)

We were walking around taking pictures – then Oded picks up his foot to take a step and leaves the *entire sole of his shoe* on the ground.. Arg!

So today is shopping and laundry.. A real post about what we’ve done and how things are going will *probably* be tonight when I am in the right headspace to post..

Lots of silly sheep – most of them wet and scrawny, probably because of the wet – over in the Gap of Dunloe which we started our day in.. It’s amazing how even on a gray, wet, miserable day with fog, the Gap is still amazingly gorgeous! And has lots of sheep.. Silly sheep.. Including the one brilliant sheep standing in the middle of the road right after a turn.. “Baa!” it said to us when we saw it.. “Get off the road, silly sheep!” we told it back.. Then we flashed our lights at it and it turned around and started running – down the road we needed to take.. So we chased a silly sheep down the road for a few minutes, while the sheep was getting more and more stressed, until it finally left the road and we passed it..

So most of this morning was spent driving on crazy back roads and stopping frequently so Oded can take a picture.. Mind you, everytime he got out of the car – and soaking wet – I was sitting there laughing at him.. I can replace curling up with hot chocolate and a book with being driven around and sightseeing, but there’s *no way* I’m going to walk out into that rain – just so I can take a picture! LOL! Lazy, spoiled me!

Of course, we got managed to get lost in the Gap.. Which was fun, of course, but meant that we ended up back in Killarney at about 2:30, instead of on our way on the Ring of Kerry.. Lunch (at Murphey’s Pub, which isn’t bad but isn’t quite as good as Crock O’Gold..) and then we continued on the Ring.. It’s really as fantastic as everyone says – even when it’s gray, wet and foggy.. Though at about 4:30 things started clearing up some, so we got some incredible pictures!

We ended the day at around 6 in Cahersiveen (sp?), a small, sleepy town near the first turn on the coast of the Ring.. Slept at O’Sheas B&B – which is fantastic! Great rooms, *wonderful* showers, scones for breakfast! Oh, and the host is an internationally successful runner – with medals and stories and everything! Cool place to stay!

My man is the best – really! He’s taking the best care of me.. Today, for example, I was vicious and miserable – so he left me alone when I wanted alone, then came back and pet me until I was happy.. If that’s not enough, he brought me breakfast to the room so I didn’t have to get up, then went to the car to pick up stuff that I left there.. This, on top of the fact that he’s the one driving everywhere.. (Admittedly, he likes driving – especially on those small, difficult back lanes that give me nightmares when I think about driving there, but still, he’s taking the best care of me and I really appreciate it!) Absolutely the best, most wonderful man ever!

So today (the 15th) we’re off to run the rest of the Ring and back to Killarney..

Yesterday was one of those days where the only thing you really want to do is curl up with hot chocolate and a book.. Weather outside was sleepy weather – misty rain and several shades of gray.. Not the best time to visit Muckross House and Gardens – or any other part of Killarney’s National Park.. We took a jaunt car – which is a horse and buggy type contraption – which was lots of fun, and toured the Muckross House, which is interesting and beautiful. We *tried* to walk around a little, but I was in a slightly miserable mood and it was *wet*, so we didn’t get much exploring done.. Did see Torc Waterfall, which is beautiful.

We got back to the city pretty early (around 5:30-6) and found ourselves the best B&B to date! Windway Town House has the perfect mix of wonderful rooms (our host kept apologizing that we got the smallest room in the house – the attic – but Oded fell in love with it immediately!), great water pressure (or so Oded says – I haven’t checked), a surprisingly organized and unobtrusive host and *free working Wifi!* The breakfast is a little smaller than previous affairs, but that isn’t necessarily a problem.. Oh, and for the less technologically dependent guests, he has a guest computer hooked up to the internet 8AM-8PM for guest convenience!

After settling in (which included internet, of course) we headed back (the 3 minute walk) to town for some food and some shopping.. We’re finally wising up to the fact that if we don’t get to dinner before 8Pm, we won’t get to eat dinner at all! So at 7PM we walk into a restaurant/pub/B&B called Crock O’Gold – and eat the best Irish stew to be had in Ireland (as far as I know), along with wonderful apple pie(something). Oded says his stuffed lamb and Bailey’s Cheescake were great, too.. Anyway, highly recommended and a definite must-eat if you’re ever in Killarney!

After eating and wandering around some (I should *never* be allowed into a bookstore when I’m on vacation.. Bought *another* 4 books, gave an hour lecture to the very nice saleslady about young adult Fantasy these days and had to be politely kicked out because she wanted to close!) we met up with my friend Colm.. Wonderful guy, that one.. Lots of fun! (Sleazy and lecherous, but in a good way.. I don’t know how he manages to pull that off, but somehow, for him, that works!) Also all-around good guy.. Had lots of fun! Hopefully we’ll see him again tomorrow night, when we get back to the Killarney area.. Oh, and if you’re in Killarney, stop by Granny’s, the pub across the street from the tourist Information.. Nice place, hysterically funny (and rather cute) barman, good booze (if you go for that type of thing).. They also apparently serve food at some point, but we got in after 9PM, so of course we have no idea..

And, for the amusement factor, apparently I’m not the only one who manages to misread store signs.. In this case, we walked by a souvenir shop and Oded says “Let’s go see what they’re selling at Buggers!” Buggers? Really? Umm.. Try “Eagers” instead! LOL! I would *love* to see what they would be selling at a store called “Buggers!”

Today we’re off to sightsee on the Ring of Kerry – I hope the fact that it’s gray and raining won’t cause us to miss out on too much..

Alright, so the first thing we learned today is that Powershowers have better water pressure than the alternative, but it’s still not really fun to wash my hair in it.. It’s just barely tolerable..

The second thing we learned is that try as we might (and try we do), we’re not really equipped to start the day earlier than 10.. Oh, well.. I hope that if we shower at night instead of planning to do so in the morning, we’ll be better able to get out after breakfast, around 9-9:30..

We spent the day at Blarney Castle.. Quite likely the most touristy place in all of Ireland, but well worth the visit.. First of all, their gardens are beautiful and fun to walk around in, even if most of the attractions are particularly touristy.. The castle itself is interesting and a fun adventure – especially if you’re not afraid of heights.. Or stairs.. Particularly narrow, winding, anti-invasion type stairs.. Both of which freak me out.. And my man is part goat.. Yes, it was fun.. LOL! Actually, with the exception of the freak out I had at the top of the castle and the difficulty in taking the stairs back down, the castle is pretty cool.. When you’re there, kiss the Blarney stone. (Unless, like me, the idea of bending over backwards over an open space with a huge drop beneath you makes you have a heart attack on the spot..) I didn’t, but Oded did.. When we got out of the castle we walked around in the gardens, and most likely would have continued, except that I needed to find a bathroom and we had set our sights on one of the local places for lunch..

On the other hand, we picked the perfect day for Blarney.. Not sunny, but not gray – lots of clouds but enough thinning out that light was getting through, and this after a misty night – everything was covered in a fine mist and the spiderwebs practically glowed and looked like they were made out of spun diamonds.. They were breathtaking (and I think Oded photographed about 20 of them..) Also, the fuzzy light was perfect for a magical feel in the gardens..

Oh, a note about timing.. Blarney castle should take approximately an hour.. The grounds, another hour if you stop at every tree, leaf and flower.. Of course, between my panic and Oded’s need to photograph *everything* – usually several times – we felt as if we could have walked around more when we left after 4 hours..

One thing we’ve both noticed while driving here – the road signs are amazing! Everything is well signed and easy to follow – except for B&B signs, which might be several kilometers before you get anywhere *near* the B&B.. (Then again, that’s why each B&B will explain to you exactly how to get to them from where you are right now. Their first question is “Where are you?” and then they tell you exactly where and when to turn to get there.. Be less stubborn and follow their instructions! It’s usually way better than Google Maps!)

On the way from Cork to Killarney, Oded decided to head off the main road and onto some dirk backway that promised him a windmill.. Well, we didn’t quite find the windmill (Oded gave up and turned around about 3 km in..) but we did see some incredibly fantastic beautiful Kerry landscape.. Kerry, for those of you who don’t know, is considered one (or possibly the) most beautiful county in Ireland.. Unfortunately, we didn’t take any pictures, as Oded was on a work conference call at the time, (and driving) and between you and me, I can’t take decent pictures if my life depended on it..

We reached Killarney at a decent hour (unlike all our previous stops which have been after 8PM), found ourselves a B&B within walking distance of the town center and set off to enjoy a good meal, get Oded some beer and maybe catch a live show.. (It’s Sunday night *and* Killarney is one of the biggest tourist towns in Ireland..) Unfortunately, the pub we’ve sighted as a good place for everything (it also supposedly has Internet) is so full that we can’t even *stand* in it.. So we decide to visit the internet cafe for a bit and come back at 9, when most of hte people will have already left.. Unfortunately, it seems that in Ireland, everything shuts down at 9.. Including serving food.. Everywhere.. Can someone explain this to me? Why on *earth* does everyone stop serving food at 9PM? This isn’t the first place this has happened to us, so it seems like it’s a cross-Ireland thing.. Honestly, this doesn’t make any sense to me.. (That, and the fact that we end up in Thai restaurants or Burger King equivalents for dinner is pissing me off to no end.)

Anyway, we’re likely to be around Killarney (or Kerry) for then next few days.. There’s the Killarney National Park which is 1000 square km of lakes, forests, mountains, rivers and a very smal amount of estates – which we plan to visit tomorrow.. (Mind you, we plan to visit a *very small part* of the National Park, but still..) After Muckross (which is the part we’re planning on visiting) there’s the 180km scenic Ring of Kerry which will probably take us 1-1.5 days to drive over.. Maybe more if Oded insists on photographing every cm.. which he might.. And, if that’s not enough, Dingle – the other (shorter) scenic route that we plan to take – is at the northwest end of Co. Kerry.. So all in all, we’re probably going to be in this area for another 3 days.. This means you might actually get regular posts! (There’s a nice internet cafe a few minutes walk from the B&B, though we might not stay at *this* B&B again.. We’ll see how we feel about it tomorrow..)

We’re having an amazing time, if anyone was still wondering about that..
Oh, and since I haven’t mentioned it in a while, I love my man and he’s amazing! Really! Lots of fun too!

Anyway, those of you following will remember that since I didn’t wake up and Oded forgot to take my driver’s license with him when he got the car in London, he’s currently the only person allowed to drive.. So today, following the advice of Avis London who told Oded when he got the car that he could add me at any Avis desk, we drove to Cork Airport to register me as a 2nd driver.

Turns out English Avis laws and Irish Avis laws are different.. We were told there would be a 1 time fee for adding a 2nd driver.. In Ireland, it’s a fee *per day*.. Big difference.. We were so dismayed and confused, and the lady at the desk was so nice and accomodating, that she decided this whole thing is way too complicated and she’s just going to register me as a second driver free of charge and may we have a nice day! Honestly, the people here are simply the nicest, most caring and accomodating people *ever* and they are making this trip absoltely significantly more fantastic than it would be otherwise!

So Yay to Avis being fantastic people!

Looks like I’m going to write much more than I’m going to manage to post.. Internet not being readily available (and us having problems convincing the computer to connect to the cellphone..)

I remember now why Castleview Farms isn’t a good place to stay – there is *absolutely no water pressure* and very little hot water.. It was exceedingly *not fun* to wash my hair there – nor did I enjoy tepid to cold water while doing so..

I hope this new place has decent water pressure.. Otherwise, I’m not going to suggest sleeping here either, even though they serve porridge with breakfast!

But, I’m getting ahead of myself.. Cahir Castle is a great place to get to know castle life.. Walk up stairs that only have one side (the other is open to the drop) or winding stairs that are uneven (to better trip up invaders), go through the castle looking at how where they lived and such.. Lots and lots of fun, though not really good for my fear of heights *or* stairs.. We missed the tour, which was a shame, but it means we’re definitely coming back here next time! Also, when we got there, there was a beautiful bird (possibly a heron but I’m no sure) sitting and preening directly across from the stone eagle that welcomes visitors to the castle! We’ll see how the pictures turn out when we have time to organize them..

After Cahir (pronounced care, as far as I could tell), we decided to go off to Blarney.. Except we *thought* we were going to Cork.. You can guess what happened, right? Especially when we started off by taking a road that Google Maps (which is what we’re using as a GPS) doesn’t recognize – so we’re driving off the map! – and then when Google Maps wanted us to take the toll road instead of the country ones.. We decided to figure it out ourselves – which, for those of you know know our ability to navigate – or have met me – is not a good way of getting there fast..

Then again, we saw the most incredible sunset I’ve ever seen in my life – and about an hour before that, 50 different colours of sunset over a small hidden valley along the way.. We *tried* to get pictures, and I hope they came out, but who knows..

I love my man – besides being the most amazing, patient, caring, helpful guy in the *universe*, he’s also spontaneous and fun! For one, I was sighing over the picture-perfect valley that we saw while driving on the highway – so he stopped, U-turned and parked on the side of the road so we could take pictures! Then, if that’s not enough, we drove by a sign about some castle – I think it was Barryscourt Castle – so we decided to detour and see it.. Which meant, of course, U-turning on the highway, driving into a small forgotten town and then getting lost *on the same road* 4 or 5 times until we found it.. This included trying to get Google to tell us where it was, following Google’s instructions and when Google told us we were *right there* looking around and seeing ourselves in a construction equipment company’s backyard! Apparently, Google doesn’t do to well with really rural (not major tourist attraction) places..

Anyway, we got to that castle about an hour after it closed, so other than attempting pictures of the glorious sunset, we continued on our way to attempt to find Blarney..

We finally got to Blarney, but for reasons unknown (maybe just because the weekend, maybe a wedding, maybe the Cork Film Festival) Blarney’s B&Bs are totally booked.. We finally find this one place that claims it’s 5 km out of Blarney.. Garrycloyne Lodge.. Oded gets instructions, which he doesn’t understand and promptly ignores and turns to his trusted friend Google Maps to help us out..

Boy was that wrong.. First of all, it took us on such a long and roundabout route that 5 km became 20.. Literally.. And that’s *without* the wrong turns and the driving up and down the same streets.. Then, if that’s not enough, it has the gall to run out of batteries and aggressively *die* at the point in which we are the most completely lost! Several phone calls and numerous wrong turns later (one of which included driving about a km or so on a spectacularly beautiful road straight to the middle of nowhere and then deciding – correctly – that we’re going in the wrong direction and using someone’s front entrance as a way to turn around) we finally arrive at our B&B.. Seems that once again we’re getting confused because of the distances between signs.. In Israel, a sign for a turn will be about 15-200 meters before the turn itself.. Here, we drove 3.5 KM from where the sign said the place is to the first turn (it’s another 1/2 KM or so after that turn)..

Blarney seems like a cool place to hang around in, though we got to town just as everything was closing.. We’ll be there tomorrow so Oded can kiss the Blarney Stone and get the Gift of Gab, so I’ll be able to tell you more about the town then..

Some other random funniness – I have a tendency to read things very, very wrong, do a double take and then figure out what they *really* say.. For example, in an elevator in London there was a commercial for this breathtaking theatrical experience called “Lunar Sex” – What? Huh? Seriously? No – Lunar Sea. I need to learn how to read.. Then, in Dublin, we stop at a light and I ask Oded “Oded, why are they selling Body Parts?” What? Huh? Oded looks around and starts laughing.. Taking a second look at that store name, I see it’s BoyleSports.. Seriously, I’ve got to learn how to read! LOL!

Anyway, I’ve been promised a PowerShower – so I *hope* that means I have decent water pressure – and porridge tomorrow morning!
