In this case, compliments to Avis. We rented a car from Avis in London. Now, they’re by far the most expensive car rental company we came across this entire trip, but they’re also the only ones willing to let us take an English car into Ireland.. In hindsight, this was a *very bad idea* and we really should have skipped the ferry, taken a flight to Dublin and rented a car there.. That being said, the car is great and they are the only ones who would let us take their car across..

Hugs everyone!

Looks like I’m going to write much more than I’m going to manage to post.. Internet not being readily available (and us having problems convincing the computer to connect to the cellphone..)

I remember now why Castleview Farms isn’t a good place to stay – there is *absolutely no water pressure* and very little hot water.. It was exceedingly *not fun* to wash my hair there – nor did I enjoy tepid to cold water while doing so..

I hope this new place has decent water pressure.. Otherwise, I’m not going to suggest sleeping here either, even though they serve porridge with breakfast! 🙂

But, I’m getting ahead of myself.. Cahir Castle is a great place to get to know castle life.. (more…)

We really don’t have decent Internet access, so I hope that we’ll manage to post whatever we manage to write whenever we get the chance! 🙂

First of all, I forgot a few amusing things about Camden street in London – it has the funkiest clothing and accessories out there.. We did find some amusing geekware, though, that on second thought we should have bought.. One is a shirt I would have bought for E (who probably isn’t reading this, but those of you who are and know who I’m talking about can point this out to him) except that I didn’t think he’d appreciate the humor.. We have a picture of this T shirt – An Autobot symbol with a classic “disguise” mask of big glasses and a fake hat – with the tag “Robots in Disguise” (it’s brilliantly funny when you see it) and the T shirt we should have bought Oded – “Fuck Google! Ask me.” Also amusing accessories, like the black and white D6 necklace..

Hugs, everyone!

I hope none of you have been worried.. We will hopefully get decent internet access as of tomorrow (Oct 9th), but until then, we haven’t really had internet access so I haven’t written anything..

So we all know planning isn’t my strong point.. Nor is it Oded’s – quite the contrary.. So there has been much planning messes – including what to schedule when, which is going to cost us probably 250 *pounds* more than it should.. Never mind..

We started the trip badly, with us leaving the house late, missing the call to skip the lines and go through check-in quickly and getting stuck with no seats.. Then, since I’m an *idiot* and managed to forget/lose/not remember I even had an Israeli passport, they almost didn’t let me leave the country.. (more…)

אני וקרן יוצאים לטיול באירלנד, הטיסה יוצאת היום (יום שלישי) אחר הצהריים.

אין לנו הרבה זמן – רק שבועיים קצרים להספיק לראות כמה שיותר דברים מכל מה שמדהים באירלנד (ומספרים לי שיש המון).

בהמשך גם קרן וגם אני נעלה פוסטים לבלוג, כמו שעשינו בתאילנד – מה שאומר שקרן תכתוב באנגלית ואני כנראה אכתוב רק בעברית כדי להשלים 🙂

אני מתכנן לחזור ב-22 בחודש (אני אנחת ב-23 בבוקר) וקרן תשאר עוד כמה ימים בשביל להיות בכנס עם אסי ולינור בדבלין. אולי היא תמשיך לכתוב משם, כבר נראה.

בינתיים, שיהיו חגים שמחים (וכל השאר) לכל מי שנשאר בארץ.

זה פוסט מתוארך אחורנית – אני באמצע הטיול לאירלנד, אבל עד עכשיו בגלל העומס בעבודה וההכנות לטיול (או החוסר בהן) לא היה לי זמן לכתוב על המילואים שסיימתי ברמת הגולן, או להעלות תמונות.

לצערי, עדיין אין לי זמן להעלות תמונות (הטיול קצר וקצת לחוץ בזמנים), אבל אני אעלה אותן בקרוב ואז גם אכתוב עוד קצת על המילואים.

בינתיים, זה ישאר כמחזיק מקום.

עדכון – התמונות מהמילואים עלו (ברובן) לגלריה, פה. כרגע חסרות בעיקר התמונות שעידו צילם, שאותן בכל מקרה ניתן לראות בגלריה של הגדוד, כאן.

בחדשות היום, גוגל עושים את המהלך המתבקש ועומדים להוציא דפדפן חדש – “כרום”.

לפני יותר משלוש שנים גוגל שכרו את בן גודגר, המפתח הראשי של Firefox. ברור שגוגל מעוניינים להעסיק מפתחים ברמה גבוהה כמו גודגר, אבל די היה ברור שלגוגל גם עניין בשוק הדפדפנים, ותמיד טוב לאסוף אנשים שכבר עשו את זה (זה חוסך את הצורך לבנות גרסה 1.0 כדי לזרוק אותה), ואכן בן גודגר היה מפתח מוביל בפיתוח של הדפדפן החדש של גוגל, כפי שאפשר לקרוא בקומיקס שגוגל הוציאו לכבוד הדפדפן החדש.

לא כתבתי כבר הרבה זמן, בעיקר בגלל לחץ בעבודה אבל גם בגלל המילואים שהתחלתי ביום שני (עכשיו אני בחופש קצר מהמילואים), ויש לי כמה דברים שרציתי להוריד מהלב, אבל קודם כל הטרוניה:

למה, לעזאזל, למה?

ברשת בתי הקפה ארקפה התחילו לפני לא הרבה זמן (שנה, שנתיים אני חושב) במין טרנד בריאותי שכזה: מעבר לחלב דל השומן שתמיד יש, כל הכריכים ושאר האוכל שנמכר במקום (מלבד העוגות כמובן) קיבלו ציביון “בריאותי”, כשספצפית זה מתבטא בד”כ בכך שאת כל הלחם החליפו ללחם דגנים מלא (הלחם החום חסר הטעם שאפשר למצוא משובצים בתוכו כל מיני גרעינים של דברים לא מזוהים). נגיד שזה הגיוני וסביר כשאתה אוכל כריך של חסה ונבטים, אבל למה, for crying out loud, לשים “לחם בריאות” בכריך בייקון ביצה ומיונז ?!?

קניתי אחד כזה בדרך למילואים והוא היה יכול להיות ממש טעים אם הוא היה מגיע בתוך לחם נורמלי.

והטיפ של השבוע: כשאתם מעורבים בתאונת דרכים, תמיד כדאי לצלם את הרכב השני – זה יעשה את היום לסוכן הביטוח שלכם, ואתם תמיד רוצים לשמור על סוכן הביטוח שלכם שמח. למדתי את זה כבר לפני כמה שנים, אבל תמיד כדאי לזכור.

In my work, I recently got to have a look (and run some statistics) on a world-class major web site (I’m not going to disclose the name, and if you know what I’m talking about then please don’t mention it in the comments – I’m not allowed to talk about it and so can’t you).

As I though it would be mighty interesting to find out what the normal internet users out there are using – not just “on my very technical and geek oriented web site I have 70% Firefox users on Linux” – here goes nothing.

I’ve been dealing a bit in the last couple of months with some SEO related issues: several of my company’s clients have wanted us to provide a complementary service where we use our knowledge of their content to provide an internal page map for the purpose of Search Engine Optimization.

The problem is, that no two “SEO Consultants” will agree on how to best present such links¹ for Google’s consumption – everyone has their own wacky idea on what links will be harvested by a search engine and the kinds of magic that Google can weave to ignore “bad links” – this is all reminding me of some strange cargo cult.
