בגדול קשה להרוס עוף בתנור – קחו כרעי עוף, סדרו בתבנית,קחו כמה מרכיבים שנשמעים הגיוניים ביחד (כמו שזיפים ורוטב רימונים, דבש וסויה או דבש וחרדל, אולי קטשופ וחרדל? 😉 ) ערבבו ושפכו על העוף ושימו בתנור לשעה. הנה הגרסה שלי למשהו קצת יותר מעניין:

Its time to update an old post about updates: Fedora 7 is again rather old, with the current Fedora being at 12, and 13 is right around the corner, but We’re still with CentOS 5 (I hear that RedHat is deep into beta with their next version – 6 but when it comes out is anyone’s guess).

In the mean time, if you want to run something a bit more modern maybe you’d want to upgrade your CentOS installation to Fedora 12 which can be considered pretty stable after a few months on the market. The reasons for the change may be numerous – maybe you need to run the latest subversion (with better merge tracking) or a new version of Ruby. Either way, if upgrading from CentOS 5 to Fedora 7 was a pain, guess how it is more the two years later?

Before we get to the action itself, I would be remiss if I would not recommend you to reconsider what you are about to do – this is a challenging exercise for many system admins and can sometimes end badly. I do not guarantee anything and if it breaks you get to keep both parts. Often its much faster and easier to just go to the server, stick a Fedora 12 DVD in the slot, reboot and let the DVD upgrade your system¹. That being said, this is fun if you’re into that sort of thing, so if you’re still with me, lets dive in!

1. another safer options would be to upgrade to Fedora 7 using the instruction in the previous article linked above, and then use Fedora’s preupgrade tool to upgrade to Fedora 8, then to fedora 10, and from there to Fedora 12, though this procedure will also require physical access to the machine and multiple reboots and multiple long downloads [↩]

One of the most annoying issues with Linux’s graphical system (and any UN*X), is that if you have some keys setup for switching the keyboard layout – when using two or more keyboard layouts, such as for writing English and Hebrew – then that key combination cannot be used in any other keyboard shortcut.

Its most annoyingly present when setting the keyboard layout switching command to ALT+SHIFT (like in MS-Windows), then you can’t do any keyboard shortcut that has ALT+SHIFT in it – such as ALT+SHIFT+TAB to move to the previous window.

Well, finally there is a solution! As detailed in FreeDesktop.org’s Bugzilla and Ubuntu’s Launchpad , and thanks to Ilya Murav’jov we now have a patch to solve this ancient X11 problem.

במסגרת תוכניתנו “למצוא דברים לכתוב עליהם בבלוג יותר ממשפט וחצי, אבל שלא יקחו לי את כל היום כי אני עצלן ויש לי גם עבודה לעשות וגם, רחמנה ליצלן, חיים”, ובגלל שאני תמיד בעד לחנך את ה”המונים הנבערים”, אני חונך פינה חדשה בבלוג- סרטים שכנראה היו הופכים לסרטי פולחן, אם היו רואים אותם יותר מעשרה אנשים.

והפעם Truth or Consequences N.M – אני לא חושב שהסרט הזה בכלל הופץ בארץ, אבל אולי אפשר לתרגם את שמו כ”אמת או השלכות, ניו-מקסיקו” (כנראה לא בהפצה מסחרית בישראל. בבתי הקולנוע בארץ היו כנראה קוראים לזה “אמת או מוות בניו-מקסיקו” או משהו כזה). הסרט קרוי על שם העיר (האמיתית) שבה מתרחשת לכאורה סצינת הסיום של הסרט – אם כי באופן משעשע הסרט לא צולם בניו-מקסיקו (לא ברור לי למה, ניו-מקסיקו אמורה להיות מקום די מוצלח לצילום סרטים).

זהו הסרט הראשון של קיפר סאתרלנד כבמאי (והוא גם משחק באחד התפקידים הראשיים) וכנראה הסיבה שהוא לא הפך לסרט פולחן היא ההפצה המאוד מוגבלת שלו (מוטיב שכנראה יחזור בפינה הזאת הרבה): לפי וויקיפדיה הוא הופץ בשבעה בתי קולנוע בלבד והרוויח פחות ממאה ועשרה אלף דולר בקופות הקולנוע.

הסרט עצמו הוא סרט פשע/מסע מעניין עם דמויות מורכבות שמתפתחות תוך כדי העלילה, ואפילו יש קצת אקשן. אבל הסיבה שאני חושב שהסרט הזה צריך להיות סרט פולחן הוא הסוף הקצת צפוי מראש וקצת מפתיע ובעיקר סצינת הסיום שחשבתי שהיא מאוד חזקה. אני לא הולך להרחיב מעבר לזה, אבל אני ממליץ לצפות אלא אם אתם לא אוהבים סרטים קשים לצפיה :-).

מכיוון שכולם אוהבים סיכומי שנה, הנה עוד סיכום שנה – פרסי דרווין לשנת 2009 חולקו לאחרונה והמנצחים הם:

שני שודדי בנק, בעיר דינאנט בבלגיה, שניסו “למשוך סכום כסף גדול” מכספומט מתו כשכשלו להעריך נכון את כמות חומר הנפץ שהם זקוקים לפריצה (תרגום גוגל). הפיצוץ הרס את כל הבניין – שהיה ריק באותו זמן מלבד שני הפושעים (תרגום גוגל).
שודד אחר הובהל לבית החולים במצב קשה ומת זמן קצר לאחר מכן בעוד גופתו של השודד השני נמצאה 12 שעות לאחר מכן בתוך ההריסות.

Its one of those things that was bound to happen eventually, we doesn’t make it any less stupid: Pub owner fined £8,000 because a guest downloaded copyrighted material on the pub’s open wireless hotspot.

From reading the article, I’m not really clear who have levied this fine – from a naive reading of the article, it sounds like the complaint was filed against the Pub’s wireless internet service provider – The Cloud (a company that provides wireless hotspot services to businesses), and its not clear whether a court was involved or if the fine was levied by some sort of arbitration process handled by the company.

קיבלתי שדרוג בדואר:

זה לא כמו עוד חיים, אבל לעלות לדרגה הבאה זה גם לא רע 🙂

עוד טיפה על פוליטיקה, לפני שאנחנו חוזרים לשידורים הרגילים: יצא לי היום לקרוא את ידיעות אחרונות¹ והיה מעניין לקרוא היום את הכתבה המרכזית במוסף “24 שעות” של ידיעות אחרונות:

תחת הכותרת (המאוד עיתונאית) “השלט שלפני הסערה”, כתבי ידיעות אחרונות יצאו להפגין מול כמה אתרים ציבוריים מעניינים כמו עיריית תל-אביב, תחנת כוח והקרייה למחקר גרעיני בנגב ולבדוק את תגובת האחראיים במקום. אני מאוד ממליץ לקרוא את הכתבה בעצמכם, כי המסקנות מעניינות. בין השאר הם מציינים שם (בהנחיית עו”ד דן יקיר מהאגודה לזכויות האזרח) מה מותר ואסור למפגינים לעשות ומה מותר לעשות למפגינים – חומר קריאה חובה למי שמתכנן לעמוד על זכויותיו החברתיות בישראל של שנות האלפיים!

לצערי הכתבה לא זמינה באינטרנט (לפי מה שחיפשתי), כנראה “למהרשת” מאמינים בעיתונות הכתובה יותר מבאתרי אינטרנט.
