[פוסט מתוארך אחורנית – לקח לי הרבה זמן לסדר את הוידאו בגלל בעיות מחשוב]

הייתי אתמול במצעד זכויות האדם הראשון בארגון האגודה לזכויות האזרח בישראל. היה מאוד צבעוני. במיוחד למרות שאני לא מסכים עם הרבה מהדעות שהועלו על נס ודגל במצעד (שימו לב בוידאו) היה חשוב לצעוד על זכותם של אנשים להביע אותן (בפראפרזה על הציטוט הידוע של וולטייר).

חבל שהרבה אנשים שאני מכיר, ושאת דעותיהם אני מעריך ושאפשר לקרוא להם “הרוב הדומם”, לא חשבו שזה חשוב מספיק להגיע למצעד, אבל כן פגשתי שם את מני ליבנה (כל הכבוד!).

בכל מקרה, הינה וידאו קצר של המצעד חולף ברחובות תל אביב – כ-14 דקות (בסך הכל כן הגיעו הרבה אנשים). המיקרופון במצלמה¹ היה מקולקל אבל לא שהיה יותר מדי מה לשמוע במהלך רוב המצעד. במקום זה שמתי פסקול קצת רועש של מוזיקה חופשית, אז אני ממליץ להתחיל בלהחליש את עוצמת הקול במחשב 🙂

לא כתבתי על חוק אמצעי זיהוי ביומטריים אצלי בבלוג עד עכשיו, למרות שזה נושא שלי אישית מאוד חשוב (ואני מאמין שצריך להיות חשוב לכל אזרחי מדינת ישראל), ואני לא באמת הולך להתחיל לכתוב על זה עכשיו כשהחוק עבר ועוד מעט יתחיל להיות מיושם: יש רבים וטובים ממני שמדברים על הנושא הזה ארוכות, כמו לדוגמה בבלוג של יהונתן קלינגר.

Ripping off Linux Outlaws title for episode 122, here is my review of GNOME’s upcoming desktop shell. Promised to be the pinnacle of the much talked about GNOME 3.0 release (which was happening and then not happening and then happening again) that is currently scheduled for September of 2010 (though no GTK+ 3.0, as far as I understand).

The new GNOME shell is, off the bat, pretty awesome – it is a completely new and refreshing approach to the desktop (checkout the screenshots in the link).

והנה עוד טרוניה, הפעם ב-Whatsup, על כך שאובונטו נהיה שם נרדף ללינוקס או שלינוקס נהיה שם נרדף לאובונטו (זה אף פעם לא היה ברור לי איזה מהם זה יותר “בעיה”). מעבר לעובדה שהבעיה הזאת מעידה שוב על הנטיה של אנשים לשטחיות, לסלידה מלימוד נושאים לעומק ובריחה להגדרות פשוטות ולא מדויקות – דבר שאני לא אוהב אף פעם, גם כל הדיון כנגד הוא שוב דרך להפשט את הבעיה לתוויות פשוטות.

I’ve listened to “Security Now”, TWiT’s “security” oriented podcast, which is hosted by Steve Gibson who is apparently a big internet security guru – so says the website. If the title doesn’t make it very clear why I quoted “security” above, then here is the scoop from Security Now episode 222 (starting at 14:50):

The latest Java Runtime Edition, in the latest version, has multiple vulnerabilities and no updates available. It acknowledged multiple problems. There is enough disclosed for exploits to be created on the net. Unfortunately, the only workaround is the workaround we all know to well – which is to disable Javascript to prevent the Java Runtime Edition components from being exploited until Sun updates themselves.

Google have declared a new programming language – Go. Contrary to how the title might read, this post is not a tirade about the abundance of programming language – I just like this sort of expressions (and Google could have easily named Go as YAPL instead 😉 ). On the contrary – I’m all for a large selection of good programming language to choose from, and a programming language coming from there, like any other Google product released, definitely warrants a more serious test then what I can offer in this rather quick post.

But I actually found out about Go from a friend that asked about it, didn’t mention Google, and gave me a link to the home page at GoLang.org where Google is not mentioned. So my review below was not influenced by any Google hype, and on the face of it, after reading through about half of the tutorial and a couple of other documents, I don’t like it.

ב“הפגנה” נגד המאגר הביומטרי (קרא: “ערב שירה על רקע מחלף קפלן”) אתמול השתתפו רק כמה עשרות אנשים – שזה באמת חבל אבל מייצג בצורה טובה את האדישות הציבורית לאסון שנקרא חוק המאגר הביומטרי. הסיקור העיתונאי דווקא היה קצת יותר מוצלח מהמצופה – נכח במקום צוות צילום של ערוץ 1¹ וכתבות עם צילומים הופיעו בכמה אתרי חדשות.

למרות זאת, הסיקור החדשותי היה ברובו מזלזל, כדוגמה קיצונית הכתבה של למה-רשת (שקוטלגה תחת “אינטרנט ומחשבים”) מציינת ש”עשרות המתנגדים לחוק הגיעו גם להפגנה זו” – ברור שיש רק כמה עשרות מתנגדים לחוק והם רצים מהפגנה להפגנה. 🙁

This blog is not a news source, but I’m baffled how almost no one reported on this (Thanks for Linux Outlaws for bringing this up), but here it is directly from the horse’s mouth (as the saying goes):

Ballmer: I mean, look, I assume any time a customer talks to us about it, it’s genuine competition. It doesn’t mean that we don’t do well. … We gain market–Linux is a genuine competitor, and yet we’ve built market share against Linux on the server, up to about 75 percent market share.

The emphasis is mine, the rest is from CNet’s interview of Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer starting at 9:30 minutes (transcript here look for the question about Google Docs).

Now, I’m not one to call Steve Ballmer a liar, but I would be very interested to see where this figure is coming from – he can’t seriously suggest that 75% of the world’s servers are running Microsoft Windows? Another interesting question is how the CNet interviewers didn’t take him up on this outrageous declaration.

קשה קצת לראות בוידאו את הטיפות, אבל תפסתי את זה כבר לקראת סוף הגשם הכבד ואפשר לראות איך הנוף מתבהר לאט.

I haven’t written here in a while as I’m a bit busy at work (I was at the US twice in the last month, and I will post pictures soon), and I even almost missed a new Ubuntu release (thanks Amnon 🙂 ).

So here is the news Ubuntu 9.10 was released.

The new version is again much better then the previous one and here are a few small improvements that I wanted to share:
