Konqueror going the way of the Dodo ?

August 7th, 2005

I’ve read ettrich’s rant about possible improvments to KDE 4 over the current status.

Some things stated are very important, and some I think are way overrated and are mostly just “usability hype”. One of the issues for which ettrich’s got the most flak was his rants about “embedding is the Wrong Thing(tm)”.

Read the rest of this entry »

So, Microsoft released a [not so] public beta of their next browser version

July 30th, 2005

And as you probably have already heard, Microsoft IE7 (only available to certain pre-registered MSDN subscribers, but can probably be gotten to using BitTorrent) does offer some changes from previous versions (unlike IE6, which can not be distinguished from IE5 without closer inspection).

JavaScript Date Format

July 26th, 2005

I took the time to implement some sorely missed functionality in the JavaScript core objects – Date is missing simple date formatting to text string. While the Date object can parse arbitrary textual descriptions of dates and times as input, it can only output textual description with a fixed “locale” template.

I’ve looked up on the web and there are some utilities that achieve this simple operation, but most of them are overly complex and some people even have the nerve to charge for this very simple code !

Uneventful

July 18th, 2005

Sorry for lack of updates – the last week was boring.

Yesterday Karen and me had to drive to Jerusalem to return a notebook Karen borrowed. It wasn’t very interesting, but we had to drive in the twisting streets of Jerusalem to the phone instructions of the notebook owner, without having a clue as to where we are going. But it all went out OK – it was just a touch and go – we were back in Herzelia 2.5 hours later.

Anyway – the most interesting thing is that Elad Just posted an entry regarding his adventures in Papua New Guinea and it sounds like he was having quite the adventure. Can’t wait for more updates.

Linux laptop tips

July 11th, 2005

I’m using a Compaq (not HP) Evo n410c laptop using Mandrake Linux (cooker) and frankly, its battery life are pretty poor (somehwere around 1 hour).

The problem is that the system configuration and defaults could be handled better.
