What a day!

It started at gawdawful in the morning (7:00), after very little sleep..
Oded and I went out to find ourselves a trekking backpack… We took the Skytrain – upper story train – to the shopping district, which we discovered only opens at 10:00.. (Just a reminder.. It’s now about 7:30..) Ugh.. So we walked around for a little, and met a very nice Thai man who wanted to practise his English. He explained that on Fridays everything opens at 10:00, and where we should go for shopping and all the big attractions of Bangkok. He then proceeded to arrange with a nearby Tuk Tuk driver to take us to the shopping center for about half the price we would have otherwise paid. 🙂

Hi everyone!
Never fly with El Al… They suck! 🙁
The flight was delayed – as usual.. There was no legroom to speak of.. As usual.. (they really push the rows to close together..) The flight was full of Israelis.. As usual.. At least one of the flight attendants was cute 😉

We landed! In Thailand! 🙂 Yay! 🙂 Then we spent an hour waiting in line for immigration.. Though they took a photo of each of us at the immigration when we finally got there.. That was pretty funky..

למרות לחץ נוראי של אריזה ברגע האחרון, וביטול התוכניות של להפגש עם חברים לפני הטיסה, הספקנו לעלות על המטוס בזמן (ואפילו עשינו קצת שופינג בדיוטי פרי).
באופן מאוד “אלעלי”, הטיסה התעכבה בכמעט שעה מזמן ההמראה המתוכנן כך שהגענו לבנגקוק רק בשעה 17:30 (והפרש השעות הוא 4 ולא כפי שאמרתי – כך שעכשיו השעה בבנגקוק היא 9:45 בערב שזה 17:45 בישראל).

באופן צפוי, גם הטיסה היתה מלאה ישראלים שנסעו לטיול בתאילנד, ויצא לנו גם לדבר עם חלק מהם – כולל שלישיה מאוד משעשעת שערכה סקר האם לאחד מהם צריך לעשות תספורת. הם כמובן הציקו לכל מי שנראה ישראלי בשדה התעופה וניהלו רישום שמות מדויק (היתכן שהם סוכנים של משטרת ההגירה התאית ? 😉 ).

בתאילנד חם. מאוד. “37 מעלות” הכריז הטייס לאחר הנחיתה, וזה לפני שסופרים את הלחות. קרן כמעט נמסה.

בסופו של דבר התמקמנו בבית הארחה (אולי מלון ?) רק בשעה מאוחרת בערב, כך שלא נספיק היום שום דבר ממש מעניין/חשוב. לא נורא – יש גם את מחר.

ד”ש לכולם.

זהו, יום אחרון בארץ – היום ב-12 בלילה קרן ואני נהיה על מטוס לתאילנד.

והכל מטורף. כמובן שעוד לא ארזנו תיק והיום אני עוד צריך לסיים דברים בעבודה, אנחנו צריכים לעשות קניות אחרונות (בין השאר – נעלי הליכה לקרן שמסתבר שאין לה ואני דפוק לא בודק), לפגוש חברים – להגיד שלום וכולי ולעשות עוד סידורים מסידורים שונים.

לפחות נושא הדירה נסגר – היום בבוקר חתמנו על החוזה של הדירה החדשה ויש לנו לאן לחזור. אני מקווה שכל השאר יהיה בסדר.

A new version of Opera for Mobile just came out, which is a version of the Opera desktop web browser, but for cellular phones and other hand-held devices (unlike the previous versions, the new one has support for PDAs: Qtopia Linux based, Nokia Symbian based, Psion based, but curiosly no PocketPC version, although a Windows “smart phone” version is available for Windows CE cellular handsets).

• For everyone that still doesn’t know (and bothers reading my blog 😉 ), I am going on vacation, starting this Wednesday (24.8.2005), to Thailand, and will be back in about a month (23.9.2005). I will of course continue to update the blog, as possible, while I’m away (though most likely – no more hebrew posts for a while).
• There are some problems, and the above plans are still not set in stone. Me and my girlfriend are looking for a new place to live, and we are having some issues with our current landlord, which I hope will be resolved soon, but it may get complicated – both with the owner of our current appartment and the owner of the place we plan on moving too – so at worst case we’ll be left with no appartment. Its not as bad as some people may think – when I came back from my Mexico trip (all work related, it was) I stayed at my girlfriend’s parents place for almost three months until I found the current appartment. I wasn’t happy with that arrangement, but if push comes to shove I think we can manage.

I’ve read ettrich’s rant about possible improvments to KDE 4 over the current status.

Some things stated are very important, and some I think are way overrated and are mostly just “usability hype”. One of the issues for which ettrich’s got the most flak was his rants about “embedding is the Wrong Thing(tm)”.
